With everybody under the sun these days claiming to be a rapper/emcee, few actually live up to the expectation. One individual who does however, is Savant aka Stanstro. This Chicago native, who now resides in Tucson, Arizona is nothing less than breathtaking when he blesses mic. Gregory “Savant” Daggett has always possessed a passion for music and literary arts. Involved in general music since age 7, and a trumpet player since age 10, he wasn’t officially exposed to hip hop until age 12. Although no particular emcee caught his ear right away, he was intrigued with the entire concept of an individual or a group of people speaking over instrumentation in an intensely rhythmic lyrical form, oftentimes telling semi-autobiographic tales relating to a fictionalized counterpart. He became inspired to write and partake of the art of emceeing after hearing the 1999 classic “Black on Both Sides” by Dante Smith (Mos Def) and honed his emceeing chops at the lunch room ciphers of Chicago high schools Whitney M. Young Magnet and George Washington Carver. He has since dedicated every verse, every bar and every word to achieving the ever elusive sense of balance in this hallowed art form. Follow the flow…
Savant has 2 shows coming up in the Tri-State area in March: 3/13/11 at The Trash Bar in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Showtime is 9pm, admission $10. 3/15/11 at The Spot Lounge in Newark, NJ. Showtime is 9pm and admission is $10.

Ginuwine heated up the stage last night for our SOBs Valentines day performance. Make sure you check out his latest album “Elgin”, especially the tracks Kidnapped & Batteries
Hope everyone had a very special night, and we will see you on wednesday when Eric Roberson hosts Sol Village.
Striaght from London, Tinie Tempah is coming to SOB’s to tear down the stage tonight! Fresh off of debuting his number 1 album “Disc-Overy”, Which also includes four top 5 singles on the charts, including two number 1′s, Tinie Tempah has won multiple awards in Europe and is looking to begin has march to stardom in America tonight at SOB’s @9pm
Unless you’ve been living under a rock you know that Nicki Minaj made a special guest appearance during this week’s SNL Digital Short. The short, which featured The Lonely Island (responsible for such hits as “I’m on a Boat” featuring T-Pain and “Boombox” featuring Julian Casablancas of The Strokes) performing their latest contribution to pop culture “The Creep.” Check it out above.
Our crush on Adele is only growing with time. Her sophomore release “21″ recently leaked online (though you need to BUY it because, hey, you should support great artists) and trust us, it’s great. If her first single “Rolling In The Deep” is any indication, we’re in for a real treat. Check out her video for the single plus a live performance of the soulful ballad “Someone Like You.”
Last night on Hot 97 Funk Flex, Pusher T and Kanye all agreed that Joell Ortiz is a fresh up-and-coming lyricist and a “must click on the net”
Joell responded this morning saying how he was flattered to know that an artist he respect so much is paying attention and enjoying his music. Ortiz then goes on to say Kanye “has always been somebody that he is interested in working with”.
I think we could be seeing a collaboration in the near future, but until then we will just stop by SOBs Nov 9th to see Joell Ortiz perform live.
This song is fresh, all rapping and no chorus. Sounds like straight hip hop and ambitious dreams to me. Here is Mickey’s newest video for the song “skyscraper”, off of his latest mix-tape release. You can download it for free off of his website Mickeyfactz.com as long as you help spread the word through one of the social networking sites.
After Sunday nights ferocious VMA performance, a leak of SOB’s alumni Kanye West’s new song “Runaway” has been leaked. A CD quality version of the song is available all over the net but here is a Youtube video of the song. The song is great but I think his performance made it worth listening to.
