Throwback Thursday: Gil Scott-Heron

We’ve had some pretty big names walk through the halls and grace the stage at SOB’s. From superstar singers like Celia Cruz to neon-clad rappers like M.I.A. – we’ve pretty much seen it all. But perhaps one of the most unique talents the SOB’s audience has seen had been none other than poet, author and musicians Gil Scott-Heron. Most well known for his political activism and composition ‘The Revolution Will Not Be Televised,” the great recorded a live album of his performance; a tribute to the late, great Dr. Martin Luther King jr. Through his art, Mr. Scott-Heron not only spoke to his generation about social issues but influenced the hip hop revolution with his social awareness and spoken-word style.

Check out the video above of Scott-Heron at another one of his great SOB’s performances.
