Average Joe? Hardly.

In its 25+ year history, SOB’s has hosted some of music’s most legendary and promising acts. The downtown venue has been home to artists at the height of their careers and served as a starting ground for acts on the road to stardom. Through the years, SOBs’ stage has seen countless memorable performances, from The Roots to B.o.B when he had the number #1 song in the country; from legendary acts like Kanye West and Cypress Hill and to rap phenom Drake. With such an impressive list, you’d expect any one of these artists to hold the record for fastest selling show; and that’s where you’d be wrong.

So if Kanye and Cudi dropping their album on the same day wasn’t enough, it looks as though Big Sean and Consequence are also joining the party.

And don’t call us September 14th, we’ll be busy buying albums to support our SOBs alum (and then listening to them over and over again).

BET Awards Recap

Posted in Alumni, News, Videos with tags , on June 28, 2010 by SOBs

Some of the usual faces won big at last night’s BET awards. Beyonce ft. Lay gaga took home the award for Video of the Year with “Videophone,” the Oscar favorite “Precious” won for Best Movie and Jay Z and Alicia Keys won for Best Collaboration with the hit “Empire State of Mind.” In a stunning upset Justin Bieber did not win an award. Aside from the awards there were some pretty memorable performances. Kanye performed his single ‘Power’ while wearing the most insane Egyptian inspired chain ever. Take a closer look at the Jacob % co. design at 24 Hour Hip Hop.

Speaking of interesting performances, Chris Brown brought out the big guns with an amazing dance tribute to Michael Jackson but stunned the crowd (in a different way) when he started crying uncontrollably when attempting to sing “Man in the Mirror.” Make of this what you will but the folks on twitter had some pretty harsh comments after the tears started flowing. Check out the performance below:

Kanye + The Cleveland Show

Our love of Kanye runs pretty deep around here (I mean he did shout us out in Big Brother after all), and since we’re still waiting on his new album, his appearance on the Cleveland show is definitely the next best thing. Shouts to Rap Radar for the link.
